What Does the Ideal Resume Look Like? Chamara Perera Explains

One of Chamara Perera's favorite things to do is help young people get the jobs they want and the jobs they deserve. After all, being an expert in developing pipelines for recruiting, training, and retaining the best employees has given him a unique perspective. His strategic approach ensures that his organization's educators have the necessary knowledge, understanding, and skills to deliver top-notch education to students.

On that note, Chamara Perera shares his notes on the ideal resume for job applicants and how to put everything together to appeal to recruiters.

Experts in recruitment have said many times before that companies prefer short resumes, not long ones. However, despite that knowledge, many applicants still put together page after page of their work history and experiences, which shouldn't be the case.

As a rule of thumb, resumes should only contain the relevant information needed for the position you're applying for, says Chamara Perera.

The ideal length of a resume should be no more than two pages. It not only helps your cause but also keeps recruiters interested. It also keeps the recruiter focused on why you should be hired.

Remember, recruiters only want to read anything they deem necessary. Putting in so much more irrelevant information has you running the risk of burying all your other important skills and experiences underneath a mountain of details that recruiters will ultimately ignore.

To create a short but concise resume, put in only the work history and skills that make you suited for the job. You can leave the rest out. It will show recruiters that you know the position you're applying for and what it demands.

Also, don't forget to update or tweak your resume before sending it. Proofreading is the one thing you should never forget with official documents, adds Chamara Perera.
