Pitfall #1: Being too general. For experience, don't say you "worked at an office." Say what kind of work you did. Remember, filing certificates and documents and managing a team of 30 people are both considered work. Don't let potential employers guess what it is you did.

Pitfall #2: Putting in too much information about yourself. People who put too much info in their resume assume it can appeal to more, if not all, of their target employers. The reality is very much different, though. "Bulky" resumes are frequently thrown out in the trash or, worse, ignored, according to Chamara Perera.

Pitfall #3: Skipping proofreading completely. It should be pretty obvious and on top of everyone's list of things to avoid. Chamara Perera notes that nothing says you don't care about the job you're applying for more than a carelessly put-together, poorly-written resume with tons of typos and grammar mistakes.

Pitfall #4: Being in a hurry. It should be noted that resume writing may seem like a simple enough task for some people, but there are a lot of moving parts in a resume. Often, whether writing or updating a resume or CV, the process becomes a bit more complex. That said, the urge to finish things quickly comes to one's mind. This is a problem because mistakes are often made when people are in a rush, adds Chamara Perera.
